Strength Through Temptation

Psalm 89

Knowing I love jelly beans, a good friend gave me a bag of them. She didn’t know that I had vowed to live healthy for the next 12 weeks — brisk walks and no junk food. To avoid temptation, I immediately put the jelly beans in my car, thinking “out of sight, out of mind.” On the drive home, I peered at the bag on the seat next to me and wondered where I should store it to eliminate the temptation.

That’s when I realized temptation has no boundaries. It can never be eliminated, but through Jesus it can be overcome. Alone, I am weak. With God’s help, I am strong. Psalm 89:15-17 talks about the strength and sanctity we experience when we trust the Lord: “Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord. They rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your righteousness. For you are their glory and strength, and by your favor you exalt our horn.”

Life holds challenges far greater than the temptation of jelly beans. In my weakest moments, I pray for God’s help and praise His holy name. I call on Him every day because I am tempted every day. We never have to feel alone in our trials because the Lord is with us. Call on the Lord today and experience the strength only He can provide.
