Take A Stand

Have you ever overheard a conversation filled with fallacies? Inappropriate use of the English language is my wife’s pet peeve. I can hardly stay quiet when I hear inaccurate accounts of football games. These are our passions because they are our professions. Paul’s profession was spreading the truth about Christ’s teachings, and it is clear that he could not remain quiet about false gospels.

Paul knew false teachers had been spreading teachings in Corinth that contradicted John 14:6, that Jesus is the only way to the Father, God. 2 Corinthians 11:4 shows us that he also knew that the Corinthians were tolerating the lies.

Paul knew he had to take a stand for his ministry because as he had promised the Corinthians “to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.” (2 Corinthians 11:2). He did not want them to be deceived and live in fear.

Paul preached that Jesus promotes a spirit of freedom, joy, love, power and peace, not a spirit of fear. It is our responsibility to take that stand today. The lost are trapped in fear, listening to lies. We must take the stand so they may find freedom.

  • What false teachings does the world today promote?
  • How can you take a stand and promote grace instead of self-righteousness?
  • In what areas do we need more Christians taking a stand? In what areas do you personally need to take a stand?
