The Church: One Big Family

As Christians we are blessed with the community of a church family. Fellowship with accountable friends brings us where we need to be, helps us in times of need and guides us to our next step.  A church that preaches the gospel and portrays the glory of God will illuminate a path for those who are seeking Him.  Our responsibility as Christ-followers is to align ourselves with Christ and take the hand of others, brushing them off as they stumble and pointing them in the direction of Christ.

Peter shows us we cannot do life alone in Acts 3:1-10. A lame beggar strategically places himself at the entrance of the church, begging for money or gifts.  Instead of giving the man what he is asking for, Peter helps the man get up and points him to Christ.  Acts 3:6 states, “But Peter said, ‘I don’t have any money for you.  But I’ll give you what I have.  In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!’”  Instantly the man was healed and leapt up in praise and worship to God. Peter played a huge role in the man’s life transformation!

As humans, we selfishly try to pave our own way through life. We overlook the fact that sometimes God has a better plan for us than the one we are trying to attain. Our brothers and sisters in Christ can help us lay aside our own ambitions and redirect our focus to where it belongs:  serving our generous Father and aligning our hearts and minds to His will.

Reflect:

  • Do you recall a time in your life when you knew your needs/wants were wrong?  How did God intervene and gently point you in the direction you needed to be?
  • God uses the fellowship of the church community for His purpose.  Is there a friend in your life that is guiding you to a closer relationship with Jesus?  If so, take the time to thank God for this blessing in your life.
