The Desire For More

Matthew 6.25-33

“Mama, can I have more cookies?”
“Will you get me some more milk?”
“I need more money for my allowance.”
“Can I watch more TV?”

Sometimes, our children seem caught in a trap of wanting more, more, more. The truth is we can get caught in the same trap. We say things like:

“I need more clothes. I don’t have anything to wear.”
“I want more time by myself.”
“If I had more money, I wouldn’t have to worry.”

The desire for more is natural but often distorted. Some search for more to fill up what’s missing in their relationship with Jesus.

Matthew 6:33 reminds us, “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” When we focus on wanting more time with God and more knowledge of who Jesus is, our other “mores” won’t consume us. When we do get more, we recognize it as a blessing from God.
