The First Christmas Present

Why do we give gifts at Christmas? To give something selflessly is an expression of love. When we give a gift, we are performing on a small level what God did for us. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

God’s gift was the ultimate expression of love. He gave Jesus Christ, who brought salvation to the world. When we give, we are showing small examples of the love God has for us. 2 Corinthians 9:11 says, “You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” God blesses us so our generosity can increase and bring glory to Him.

By showing God’s love to others through giving, we’re able to share His unending love with a world that so desperately needs it.
