The fruits of obedience

As humans, we judge by what we see. We assume someone wearing dirty clothes doesn’t have the means to do laundry or the money to buy new clothes. We assume that people who drive expensive cars are wealthy. Humans are impressed with external things; but God doesn’t judge by appearance. He sees the heart. God is building an eternal kingdom, and He wants his lost children found. This is where we come in.

Imagine your walk with God is a tree. God desires for us to grow spiritually so we can bear fruit. In the Bible, the word fruit is used several ways. There is the fruit of repentance, the fruit of answered prayer, the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control) and the fruit of seeing others come into the faith. God wants us to bear much fruit, to reproduce many Christians. Found people find people.

As I write this devotion, I’m reminded of a teacher who died about a year ago. Dan was called a “simple, ordinary man,” but he made an extraordinary impact on everyone he met. Dan made God’s agenda his agenda. He surrendered his daily life to Christ, following Jesus step by step. Dan invested his life in finding people for the Kingdom.

Let’s pray for God to help us see what He sees; the heart of his lost children. Let’s ask Him to help us breathe hope and life into their souls.
