The Height From Which You Have Fallen

It’s hard to close the gap between what you know in your head and what you feel in your heart.  Our desire is to have a faith that continuously pumps enthusiasm and energy; but that’s not reality 100 percent of the time. Faith in God is more than an emotion or state of mind. Faith takes recognition and submission, both of which require intention. Following God is a choice we make every moment of every day.

In Revelation, Jesus tells the church, “Remember the height from which you have fallen!” Though the church in Ephesus was working hard, persevering and disciplining its members, the one thing they weren’t doing intentionally was remembering their love for Jesus.

While it’s important to make an intentional effort to uphold God’s commands, we shouldn’t ignore a lacking love for Him in our hearts. Our head knowledge of what Jesus wants is meant to bring us to repentance. But our heart knowledge of who he is and our standing with him is what gives us our zeal and our ability to persevere as we move toward righteousness.
