The Light is On

Have you ever experienced total darkness? Some cave guides sit visitors down and turn out every light. In those moments, a person can hold his hand in front of his face and not even see it. The darkness is so overpowering it can almost be felt. What a relief when the lights are slowly brought back on. People become aware of themselves again. They can see each other and the path that lies ahead.

Spiritually, we are in total darkness before we start a relationship with Jesus. We don’t know where we’re going next. Unaware of the seriousness of our situation, we stumble over our next steps. The darkness keeps us from seeing God’s work all around us.

When we meet Jesus, the light is turned on. Psalm 36:9 says, “in your light we see light.” We don’t even recognize light apart from Jesus. We must have Jesus to see the world clearly. His light points out what needs to change in us. His light reveals the needs to be met in others. His light opens our eyes to how He is working around us every day.
