The Longer Route

In Exodus 13 we see how carefully and lovingly God plans our lives. Exodus 13:17-18 says, “When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, ‘If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.’” Yes, God carefully and lovingly plans our lives but God does not look for what is the easiest or quickest solution to our circumstances but rather what is best for us. Instead of wondering why we have trials in this life, we need to think of what God is saving us from through those trials. He knew the character of the Israelites and how easily they would return to the slavery of Egypt if they had to face a war. In the same way, He knows how easily we may turn around and return to the slavery of our sin. No matter the impossible situation or painful circumstance in our lives, we can find rest knowing God’s love and planning is purposeful.
