The Motivation to Serve

When I think about how I acted before I met Jesus, the difference between then and now is my desire to serve Jesus.

When Jesus returns, everyone will show Him reverence with their words and actions. Philippians 2:9-11 says God “exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord.”

For thousands of years, God has held back Jesus’ return out of His grace and love for people. Every day is a new opportunity for someone to recognize that Jesus is Lord, that His death on the cross paid for our sins, and that following Jesus is the only way to eternal life. God does not force us into relationship. He chooses to love us into repentance instead.

That’s why Jesus, having all the power of God, would humble Himself and become a man. He loved us so much that He put our best interest above His. And when we follow Jesus closely, we find ourselves increasingly wanting to do the same.
