The Other Cheek

Making war against the enemy means war against Satan and his evil schemes. It does not mean making war against our personal enemies and people who don’t believe in Christ the Savior.

Matthew 5:39 — But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.

It’s easy to get frustrated when we share the gospel and get shot down again and again. And not just shot down, but laughed at and called naïve or stupid. We may become insecure and hopeless, feeling like there are people we may never reach.

That is exactly how we let the devil win. He wants nothing more than for the ridiculing of our beliefs to make us embarrassed to talk about them. The gospel is a powerful message. We are called to share it in gentleness and sincerity. We may never know in this life if it made any difference, but we shouldn’t let that discourage us.

Today, let’s pray that God would show us how to turn the other cheek when we come against attacks to our faith and continue to share that faith in love through both our words and actions.
