The Struggle of Sex

Society and mass media cheapen sex and marriage in every way possible. They teach that it is acceptable to lust after whomever we choose and that masturbation is a permissible way to satisfy that lust. We are taught from a young age to adorn our bodies in a way that is sexually pleasing to the opposite gender. In magazines, TV shows and movies, we see failed relationships filled with drama which end in separation without any effort to reconcile. If we experience guilt, society tells us to blame the conservative voices of previous generations instead of recognizing it as a genuine signal of conscience. We are encouraged to laugh at homosexuality, adultery and broken families.

The truth is these feelings, desires and actions are a natural part of life, but only because of the sin within us. As Christians, our challenge is to rise above the sinful nature, not to succumb to it. We should pray for our struggling neighbors instead of mocking their pain. Instead of hiding within our clique of church friends, we are called to engage the world by sharing God’s truth. We are to proceed with pure intent in how we interact physically. This is our opportunity to show that we don’t have to move in the same direction as the rest of society.

We should pursue all relationships in purity as we strive to put God’s desires above our own. The challenge is immense, but so is the blessing.
