There’s No Such Thing as a White Lie

There’s no such thing as a little white lie. That’s right. All those times you told your mom you’d cleaned your room when your closet was about to explode dirty laundry all over the place or the time you told your friend those super-tight leggings-as-pants didn’t make her butt look big — not so little and definitely not white. Lies will always hurt someone, even if it’s just you.

Proverbs is jam-packed with wisdom on how to live a successful and happy life. In Proverbs 24:26 we’re told, “an honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.” A kiss on the lips — who wouldn’t want that? Honesty is the kiss of our relationships.

Just like you kiss your significant other, honesty shows others your love for them. Just like a mother kisses her son’s scrapes and broken bones, honesty brings healing and comfort to relationships. Honesty is what makes us real, relates us to one another, heals us from hurt, mends us from bitterness, encourages us toward something better and fires us up with passion for God’s truth in our lives. Honesty is never something you’ll regret having in your relationships.

  • With whom do you need to get honest? About what?
  • What is one way you can speak the truth and show that you love this person?
  • How might this honesty bring both of you healing?
