Through A Child’s Eye

When our daughter was 5, she and my mother were having an afternoon together. My mother related an incident in which my husband had borrowed her car and returned it full of gas. She said, “I really must pay him back for that.” In all her young-life wisdom, our daughter said, “Oh, you don’t have to do that. My Daddy is a very kind man.”

When you want to know about a father, ask his child. She will tell you all about him — usually in great detail. Our daughter knew her daddy from his past actions, and she had no doubt in reassuring my mother of the facts.

This is the same way the psalmist knew God:

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds. Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God?” (Psalm 77:11-13)

Do we know our heavenly father like that? Even when anxiety, frustration and confusion strike, we can remember God’s past actions and know we can count on Him to continue to take care of us.

  • What has your heavenly father done for you in the past?
  • Do you believe that He will be faithful in the future?
