Transformation

Read

Romans 12:2, Ephesians 6:17, Genesis

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-His good, pleasing, and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

What do we do at the beginning of each new year? We often reflect on the past year. What events will define 2010 for you? Look deeper, what defined you in 2010? Was it Jesus? Was it love? Was it worry? Was it busyness? As I look back over my year, I’m embarrassed how I spent much of my time and where I put much of my effort. The bible
tells us in Romans 12:2 not to “conform any longer to the pattern of this world.” If we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, we are not to live our lives like the world. If that’s
where you have been this year, ask God to forgive you for your wasted time. It is time to move forward.

Moving forward in 2011 requires transformation in certain areas of our lives. This same verse tells each Christ follower to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Transformation can be accomplished by renewing our minds with God’s Word. In Ephesians 6:17, Paul calls the word of God “the sword of the spirit.” A sword is a weapon. Leaving behind wrong patterns we have adopted is a battle that requires the weapon of God’s Word.

Romans 12:2 speaks of our future, “Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Once we stop conforming to patterns that are not glorifying to God and our mind is renewed, we will see where God wants to take us in the coming year.

When we come to the end of 2011, will our lives look different than they did at the end of 2010? Reflect on your life. Pray that God will show you where renewal needs to take
place and commit to seeking God’s “perfect will” for you this year.
