True Fellowship

I love storms; winter storms, thunderstorms, they are rare and exciting. However, there are those few occasions they cause the power to go out. When this happens, things get inconvenient. We light candles and use flashlights, but even then, we can’t see clearly; we bump into things and life slows down. We are not able to use the gift of electricity the way it is meant to be used.

When storms come in our lives, oftentimes, sin lodges itself in our hearts. When this happens, we suffer spiritually in our fellowship with God and one another. We are unable to see things clearly because we are blinded by our sin.

John uses light as a metaphor, “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light. In Him, there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, His son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:5-9

Confession is how we walk in the light. We must step out of the darkness of our sin and into the light. At first it hurts as our eyes adjust to this bright and brilliant light, but if we wait patiently there, we will be able to see clearly and fellowship truly.
