Trust

Imagine a young boy, almost 3, chubby, healthy and happy. He loves trains and the latest movie characters. Each day, when his parents pick him up from daycare, he shares a smile, a hug and a story. With no history of health problems, his parents are shocked one day to learn that their son has had a seizure. More seizures are followed by a week of tests. Their minds reel as they try to understand what’s happening inside their little boy.

With each seizure, each additional day in the hospital, each test and each unanswered question, their fear increases. Late one night, as the boy begins to lose control of his movements and facial muscles, his mother loses her composure. Through tears, not knowing what the future holds for her son, she prays the hardest prayer she has ever prayed, “God, he is yours. Take care of him.”

We all have a story. On that unsure night, watching with horror as my son lost control of his body, Jesus calmed my soul. Although I didn’t know the course of our next several hours or days, Jesus taught me to trust everything, even my children, to Him.

The Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”  When we are scared and don’t understand our circumstances, we can rest knowing the creator of everything loves us and is in control.
