Unveil My Eyes

Psalm 119:18 says, “Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.” Other Bible translations use the phrase “unveil my eyes” or “uncover my eyes.”

The psalmist is not talking about physically opening our eyes. If we are reading the words on this page, our eyes are obviously open. Instead, he’s asking God to help him see the Bible differently.

When God opens our eyes, we are able to see the secret and hidden things of Scripture. We are able to understand why we need Jesus. When God opens our eyes, we are able to understand and receive Christ’s payment for our sins.

Unless God opens our eyes, we will struggle to live for God and keep His commandments. There is a veil of darkness on our hearts. The defect is not in God’s Word but in us.

The Bible says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17: 9-10).

When we call upon God, in prayer, He will unveil our eyes and help us understand and apply His word. Supernaturally, God will give us wisdom and understanding. As we read the Bible, God will renew our minds and equip us to live for Him.
