Using the Weak to Shame the Strong

How often are we faced with an overwhelming task? How often do we feel inadequate in a ministry God has called us to? Thank God we do not have to approach these situations alone. God calls us and equips us for His purposes. Matthew 17:20 says when His Spirit lives in us “nothing will be impossible.”

“I can’t tell that person at work about Jesus.”
“I don’t know if I’m talented enough or outgoing enough to serve on that team.”
“I’m not smart enough to memorize Bible verses.”

The next time you think words like these or hear them coming out of your mouth, remember all the ordinary, flawed people the Lord has used throughout history. Moses had a stutter. David committed adultery. Matthew was a tax collector, which today would be like being a member of the mob. In 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 Paul says, “Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential.” But he reminds us that “God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”

What are you feeling overwhelmed by today? Take time to meditate on this passage, and praise God for what He is going to do through you.
