We live in a fast world. Fast cars, fast food and fast lanes. When we want something, we want it right then, no waits and no hassles.

Why doesn’t God work like this? Why can’t He just give us what we need, or get us out of something immediately? Doesn’t He have a drive-through? God doesn’t answer to our schedules and that is the best part. God wants the best for His children and the best sometimes isn’t the fastest.

Psalm 40:1-2 says, “I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”

Sometimes God lets us stay in a tough time—whether it’s a tight season financially or a difficult season relationally—because He knows the act of remaining obedient and seeking His presence will grow our faith and bring us closer to Him.

So when you are in the muck and mud of life remember that God is letting you face it for a reason. By remaining focused on Him and His presence, God will reward your waiting when He brings you out of the mud by His hand.
