We Are His Chosen Instruments

In Acts 9, Saul, a powerful and well-known persecutor of Christians, meets Jesus. He leaves his old ways behind and becomes a powerful witness that Jesus is the Son of God. The Lord called Saul “my chosen instrument” (Acts 9:15).

You might wonder why God would choose Saul. Many people in Saul’s day wondered the same thing — even Christians. In Acts 9:21-22, those who heard Saul recalled his past sins and expected him to act the same way he did before. But the more Saul witnessed, the stronger he got, and the more people were able to see and believe that he had truly been changed.

We, too, started as sinners who met Jesus, and now we are empowered by the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. People, even Christians, may have difficulty accepting and believing that we really have changed. But, like Saul, the more we share Jesus with others and embody His characteristics, the more strength He will supply, for we, too, are His chosen instruments.
