We Have a Hero!

Firefighters save people from burning buildings. Cops save people from crime, and doctors save people from injury and disease. Tons of people are in the business of saving, and tons of people need to be saved.

In Jeremiah 15:15, the prophet is begging for salvation: “You understand, O Lord; remember me and care for me. Avenge me on my persecutors.” Jeremiah is feeling overwhelmed and forgotten. He has put in so much work, and he feels his efforts are being neglected. He longs for rescue.

“When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God Almighty. I never sat in the company of revelers, never made merry with them; I sat alone because your hand was on me and you had filled me with indignation” (Jeremiah 15:16-17).

Although Jeremiah seems to have done everything right, he still fears the wrath of his Lord. Imagine how someone who has done everything wrong must feel — even more desperate for saving.

Whether you think you've done it all right or done it all wrong, God wants to save you from every overwhelming predicament. His rescue may not be smooth and immediate, but He declares “I am with you to rescue and save you” (Jeremiah 15:20). What do you need to trust God to deliver you from today?
