Where Is Your Hope?

One more day until exam week. Seven more days until break. One month until a fresh start at the New Year.

Our lives are filled with countdowns, checklists, mile markers, and “what ifs?” Whether we’re waiting for a fresh start, starting a new diet or banking on the next paycheck, we’re hoping. Hoping for a better alternative to save us from the dissatisfaction of our present situation.

In Psalm 130, David makes a plea to Israel, a plea of rightly placed hope. So often, just as the Israelites did, we find ourselves surrounded by hope in worldly things. We drown ourselves with the what ifs and countdowns, hoping they will save us from our situation. And sometimes they do, if only for the moment. But all hope outside of God fades.

When we place our hope in anything other than God, we will be disappointed. But as we sit in the depths and desperation of our lives, God can and will save us. Not one of us is past God’s reach. All we have to do is wait. For when we wait, putting all of our hope in God’s redemption, nothing can stand against us.

Search your heart today and ask: What’s keeping you from hoping in the Lord with your “whole being”? How is God calling you to wait in Him?
