Who Am I?

I never knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. I have been a secretary, a wiring technician, a housing counselor, a waitress, a manager, a daycare provider and a pizza delivery girl. My identity always felt jumbled -- until I met Jesus.

I can’t say I know exactly what I am supposed to be doing career wise, but I am certain of two things that I questioned before:

1. We all belong to the Lord. Romans 14:8 says, “If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” And Psalm 24:1 says “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” You are His and He loves you deeply, no matter what.

2. God knew exactly what He was doing when He made each of us. In His eyes, we are of value and extremely useful. “Ears that hear and eyes that see – the Lord has made them both” (Proverbs 20:12). Everything about you God thoughtfully created and intended for His glory.

If you’re struggling with knowing who God has called you to be, take heart in this: It doesn’t matter if we know what career we’ll be good at because our purpose is greater than a job title. What matters is we belong to the Lord and He created us for His glory. Giving God glory is our life’s work, and in that, we find more purpose and fulfillment than any job can offer.
