Who Will Help Us?

"Defender," a new song from NewSpring Worship, was inspired by Exodus 34:6, Isaiah 19:20 and Zephaniah 3:17.

Life has ups and downs. Sometimes things are okay and we feel good. At other times, things are not going our way and we feel bad. This is not unusual. We all experience times when we feel like we are in a battle and worry that we might be losing.

For believers in Jesus, there is good news. God promises at all times, including when it seems that things are against us, we are not alone. He is with us.

God is ready. Isaiah 19:20 says that He is a “defender, and he will rescue” us when we “cry out to” Him. All we have to do is call on Him to protect and rescue us from the “oppressors” in our lives. He is listening for our voice.

God is able. Zephaniah 3:17 says God is “mighty” and He “will save.” God is more powerful than anything else in our lives. It is not a question of if He will use His power to help us. He promises that He will.

God is faithful. Exodus 34:6 says God is “slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”  God doesn’t withhold His defending, rescuing and saving power from us based on whether we have earned it in some way. If we have accepted Jesus as our Savior, God will do what He says He will do because of who He is, not because of anything else we have or have not done.

Reflect:

  • If you have a relationship with Jesus, what steps can you take to trust God to keep His promise to help you through difficult times in life?
  • If you need the mighty power of God in your life, you can start a relationship with Him today. Learn more about salvation here.
