Whose Opinion Matters?

Jesus died for our sins so that we can have eternal life when we ask Him into our lives. This is the hope we have. This is what propels us forward in following the paths that may seem strange to the world, that may not be the norm, that may be ridiculed.

Sometimes it is scary to take our next step, but when we focus on Jesus, we find the strength to take it. “He has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations” (Psalm 98:1-2). When we focus on what Jesus has offered to us — forgiveness, eternal life, joy and peace — we begin to long for what pleases and honors Him.

You may be thinking of taking a next step but wondering what others will think if you do. Maybe you fear failure or being misunderstood. 1 Peter 3:14-15 encourages us, “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened. But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”

Reflect:

  • What next step is Jesus asking of you?
  • Whose opinion do you value most? Who do you desire to please?
  • What do you stand to gain in valuing Jesus’ opinion above all others?
