Words Too Precious To Waste

How important are words spoken in faith? In two of today’s stories, God intervenes to prevent men from speaking carelessly and ensures His will for their lives.

Balam was on his way to see Balak, who wanted him to curse the Israelites, when the angel of the Lord appeared and instructed him to speak only the words God gave him when speaking over Israel (Numbers 22:35).

Zechariah doubted his wife would conceive and was made mute until the baby’s birth. The angel of Lord instructed him to name the child John, and Zechariah’s mouth was loosed only after obeying and writing to his relatives that his son should be named John.

Jesus demonstrates the power of words spoken in faith in Matthew 21:18-21, “Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, ‘May you never bear fruit again!’ Immediately the tree withered. When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. ‘How did the fig tree wither so quickly?’ they asked. Jesus replied, ‘Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.’”

Words with this kind of power are too precious to waste. Watch your words today. How can you use them to breathe life into situations, rather than breed destruction?
