Test the Spirits
Overview: Daniel 7-8, 1 John 4
The visions of Daniel show that God is in control of history and will keep His promises to His people. Daniel sees visions of the heavenly court and the Son of Man’s dominion over the earth (Daniel 7:13-14). Jesus referred back to this vision to explain His kingdom (Matthew 26:64, Mark 14:62).
Daniel’s vision of the ram, goat, and the little horn represents the empires that will rule over God’s people. In the years between the Old and New Testaments, several empires ruled over Israel and Judah and oppressed them in terrible ways. Yet, God rules over it all and does not forget His promise to His people.
John writes on the importance of overcoming evil by listening to the Apostles’ teaching given by the Spirit. We can be assured of our knowledge of God through the love of God. And we can be encouraged that God’s Spirit dwells in us if we bear fruit, loving one another.
