Covenant of the Heart
Overview: Psalm 82-84, Romans 2
The psalmist takes up the theme of judgment in these Psalms. Psalm 82 and Psalm 83 call for individual and corporate justice. Psalm 84 reflects on how all things pale in comparison to being in God’s presence.
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.” - Psalm 84:11
In Romans, Paul differentiates between knowing the law and keeping the law. He explains how God’s wrath is righteously revealed against sin. After showing how Gentiles are unrighteous before God, Paul now shows that Jews are not exempt from God’s judgment. To live by the Law is to be marked by the covenant of the heart, by the Spirit.
