You Can’t Do Life Alone

I used to pray for people while I sat back and watched. “God, please help John make it through this difficult time,” I would offer. I remembered reading “pray without ceasing” somewhere in the Bible, and that is what I was trying to do. But when I encountered significant troubles in my own life and saw others come alongside me, I realized how misguided I had been.

Galatians 6:2 tells us to “bear one another’s burdens.” We are expected to pray — prayer sets our mind on the path of God — but our participation should not end there. We are called to put our feet to our prayer. This is true in our lives and the lives God gives us the privilege of being part of. Mark 2 tells the story of some guys who stopped at nothing to make sure their friend met Jesus. They didn’t just pray, the carried their friend in his weakness, going so far as to dig a hole in the roof of the house where Jesus was to get close to Him.

We need one another. There are times in all our lives when others will have strength we lack, and times when we have strength to spare. Take time to reach out today. Let’s begin to tear the roof off and get closer to Jesus.

  • Who can you reach out to today to get closer to Jesus?
  • Who can you carry to the Lord today?
