Session 28

If God Did It For Them, He Will Do It For You

Read: Colossians 4:17-18

When someone writes a letter, they want to leave the reader with something that will encourage, motivate and compel them. They want to give the reader something to hold onto, something to remember and something to look forward to. The last sentence, last phrase and last word is usually something of great importance that evokes an action or a response.

In Paul’s letter to the church in Colossae, he leaves them a charge. The last words Paul writes are “See to it that you complete the work you have received in the Lord” and “Remember my chains. Grace be with you” (Colossians 4:17-18). In other words, Paul was telling the church: Don’t give up no matter what your present circumstances look like. Paul wanted the believers to remember his chains and how God’s grace delivered him. He wanted them to be encouraged that whatever current prison they were in, God’s promise would set them free. He wanted them to know that if God was faithful to him, God would be faithful to them.

The same grace that delivered Paul from his chains is available to each of us today. Christ’s salvation is greater than your current situation. If God delivered Paul from his prison, He can and He will deliver you.

Reflect:

  • What chains are currently binding you?
  • Are circumstances in your life causing you to consider giving up? Here are some storiesof other people’s chains that Jesus delivered them from to help remind you that He can and He will do the same for you.
