Session 26

Read: John 15:1-6, Galatians 5:22-23

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful… Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers…” John 15:1-6

Jesus compares Himself to a vine and us to the branches that grow from Him. If we remain in Him, our lives will produce fruit. We remain in Him by talking to Him, reading and meditating on His word, worshiping Him, serving as He did and following His commands. What kind of fruit will we produce? Galatians 5:22-23 says, “…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” We cannot produce this fruit on our own. It is evidence of our relationship with Jesus.

What fruit is evident in our lives? Where do we need more growth? To shape us into what He wants us to be, God will cut away something harmful or something good to produce something better. His work in our lives will produce the fruit that He desires.
