He’s Returning. Live Like It!

Read: 2 Thessalonians , Psalm 22

He's Returning. Live Like It! Throughout this short book, you will see the underlying theme of Jesus' second coming. When Paul wrote 2 Thessalonians (over 1500 years ago), he believed signs of the end times were already occurring. He directly addressed believers as “you”. As you read the passages below, note each reference to you or your.

2 Thessalonians 1:11 says, “With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of His calling, and that by His power He may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith.”

2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 says, “But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning God chose you to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth. He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

2 Thessalonians 3:7-8 says, “For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you.”

Isn't it amazing how these three passages attest to God's miraculous love for us today and His love for the Church universal through the all encompassing “you”? Even though no one knows for sure when Jesus will return, we should live each day as if it is our last. We are reminded to remain in constant prayer, to remember His calling upon our lives, and to be active believers. As believers, we must meet with our Father on a consistent basis through His Word, prayer, and corporate worship so we can know Him intimately. The more we know our Heavenly Father, the more like Him we will become. Our prayer and servitude become more effective as our walk deepens. The challenge for us is to take our next step with the Father, making the most of every opportunity because our time is short.
