The undead are popular as ever. What would you say if stories of corpses coming back to life weren’t just in the movies, but in the pages of the Bible?
Read These 11 Living Dead Stories
1. Son of a widowed woman
Elijah, a man who followed God, prayed for a widow’s dead son. God answered Elijah’s prayer and the boy came back to life (1 Kings 17:17-24).
2. Son of a Shunammite woman
Elisha, a follower of God, prayed for a woman’s dead son and he resurrected after sneezing seven times (2 Kings 4:32-37).
3. Man buried by Israelites
Israelite people were burying a corpse when enemy Moabite raiders found them. The Israelites threw the body into the tomb of Elisha. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the dead man came back to life and stood up (2 Kings 13:20-21).
4. Dry bones
Ezekiel, a man who followed God, saw a valley full of dry bones. God brought the bones back together, put flesh and skin on them and gave them the breath of life so they stood up like a large army (Ezekiel 37:1-14).
5. Son of a woman from Nain
A crowd carried a widow’s dead son to burial. Jesus touched the stretcher and instructed the man to get up. The son sat up and began talking (Luke 7:11-15).
6. Daughter of Jairus
Jairus was a religious leader whose daughter died. Jesus went to Jairus’ home, took the dead girl by the hand and told her to get up and she stood up, alive (Luke 8:49-55).
7. Lazarus
Jesus went to the tomb of His friend, Lazarus, who had died four days earlier. Jesus instructed Lazarus to come out and he did, still wrapped in burial clothes (John 11:17-44).
8. Tabitha
A generous woman, Tabitha, got sick and died. Peter, one of the early Church leaders, prayed to God and told Tabitha to get up and she sat up and talked with her friends (Acts 9:36-41).
9. Paul
When religious people didn’t like what Paul, a leader of the Church, was teaching about Jesus, they stoned him to death. However, he got up and kept telling others about Jesus as if nothing happened (Acts 14:19-20).
10. Eutychus
Paul spoke with a group of Christians late into the night. A young man, Eutychus, fell asleep and fell out the third story window to his death. Paul rushed down and declared the man alive (Acts 20:7-12).
11. Buried people
When Jesus died on the cross, an earthquake broke tombs open around Jerusalem. Many bodies came back to life, walked out of their tombs and appeared to other people (Matthew 27:51-53).
Stories like these are strange but true, real miracles of God. The same God who created the world and gives us life can also bring people to life after death. Nothing is impossible with Him.
