Session 1
The decision that makes all the difference
From 2 Chronicles: A 28-Day Devotional
Ever feel like the things you do don’t matter? As Christians, we are called to make a difference and change the world around us. But how? Most of us do not have high and public positions like Solomon, but we can still look to his example.
When Solomon’s father, David, died and left Solomon to rule, Solomon asked God for wisdom. God answered Solomon’s prayer, giving him the wisdom he needed to rule and then some. In Solomon’s time, he became known as the wisest man in the world.
By turning to God with the task he had been assigned, Solomon made a ripple in the world much like a pebble in a pond. Solomon’s fame spread beyond Israel until word of his great wisdom reached the Queen of Sheba, causing her to travel to Solomon’s palace bringing gifts in exchange to hear his great wisdom. The queen’s investigation into Solomon’s life left her with no choice but to praise his God.
We are all staring at tasks assigned by God. These tasks may seem overwhelming, just like becoming king seemed too great a task for Solomon. But if we’ll ask God for help and put Him first, we, too, can start a ripple that goes far beyond anything we could have dreamed.
Reflect:
- What is one task you are facing that seems overwhelming? Have you asked God for direction?
- How does picturing all you do as an opportunity to send a ripple into the world change your perspective about even the smallest tasks?
