Where to find the strength you need today
From 2 Chronicles: A 28-Day Devotional
Some days feel like an uphill battle. The job is stressful, the bills accumulate, the medical condition worsens, children venture down the wrong path. Problems seem to never end. Often, pride keeps us from admitting our struggles, and our attempts to fix everything ourselves leave us discouraged and frustrated. How do we manage our problems when daily life consumes us?
The Bible provides many examples of God coming through in seemingly hopeless situations. In 2 Chronicles 32 the king of Assyria invades Judah with intent to destroy the land. King Hezekiah did all he could to prepare militarily for the invasion, and he trusted God. He encouraged his people to be strong and courageous, for the power of God was on their side (2 Chronicles 32:7-8). When Hezekiah cried out to the Lord for strength, God sent down an angel that annihilated the Assyrian army, and Jerusalem was saved.
We will face trials, but Scripture promises an everlasting source of strength. 1 John 4:4 assures us, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” God sends the Holy Spirit to live in us to encourage us, prepare us, and fight for us.
We may not face a literal army, as Hezekiah did, but that doesn’t mean we are exempt from facing battles at work, home, or school. When we rely on God and trust Him to fight for us, we have peace in the battle and grow closer to Him in the process.
- What’s one area of your life where you need to trust God with the outcome?
- What is one step you can take today to begin trusting Him with that situation?
- Take a moment to pray and ask God to give you the faith to trust Him with your situation.
