A Right Spirit

Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls. God has created some really awesome things-  they captivate us! High-powered telescopes gives us hi-def pictures of even greater things beyond the earth like the Whirlpool Galaxy and Alpha Centauri. We are amazed by their sheer size and awesome beauty. They remind us of how small we are and how big and capable God is; they blow our minds. The same God who created the universe created us also. Psalm 139:13-14 says “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

If we have lack a sense of wonder when we gaze at the stars, lost a sense of purpose in the One who made us or struggle to make headway in our journey with Christ, then we need a refreshing. A clean start. A fresh heart. Psalm 51:10 says “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Having a right spirit means having a humble heart towards God, believing that there is nothing you can do on your own- without God- and trusting that a fresh new start or season comes from Him. A right spirit means having genuine affection for Christ. The power of the past can have an invasive presence over our lives, but Romans 8:37 says, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” To get past our past we need to be convinced that because God has awesome power to create the universe he can create some really great things in our lives as well.
