All Your Might

God has plans for us! Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“ Who He created us to be plays an integral part in what He has in mind for us. So, how do we pursue this? What is required?

The Apostle Paul says in Colossians 1:9 “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” Here Paul is encouraging new believers, admonishing them to let God continue to grow them so they can perceive God’s will.

Apprehending God’s will sometimes requires prayer from people who are walking in Christ with you like when Paul says “He (Epaphras) is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured (Colossians 4:12).” “Wrestling in prayer” implies that there is spiritual resistance, especially when the will of God involves advancing His Kingdom.

Knowing and apprehending God’s will for our lives can be daunting. Having passion or proficiency at something is a good starting place, but we still need God’s leading and counsel. Proverbs 4:7 says “Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” Immaturity, spiritual resistance or disobedience can keep us from knowing His will but regardless or whether you find yourselves in full-time ministry, at a trade shop, or trading stocks, live your life in Christ with passion. Ecclesiastes 9:10 says “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.”
