Be Prepared

Some people take very seriously the possibility of a zombie apocalypse in our lifetime. They are prepared, with bunkers of food and weapons. That level of readiness sounds silly when you’re talking about zombies, but we should have that same attitude about Jesus’s return.

In Luke 12:40, Jesus says, “The Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.” Despite the unknown time of His arrival, Jesus urges us to be ready. He compares His return to a master who comes home to his servants after a long absence. It will be good for those servants who are prepared for their master’s arrival. But Jesus says the servant who becomes impatient and begins living for himself will be assigned a place with the unbelievers.

We don’t know when Jesus will come back, but we should live each day expecting His return. This means showing love and kindness, sharing the Gospel and repenting of sin, even when no one is looking.

We’ve been entrusted with a big responsibility. Let’s “keep our lamps burning,” so when Jesus knocks we can open the door for Him immediately.
