Be Real, Be Honest

When most people think of Psalms they think of happy verses to meditate on. But Psalms is more than a book of quotable verses. This is a book filled with honest feelings about life. And let’s face it, life is not always happy.

Psalm 38 is one of those psalms you won’t see in scripted font on a coffee cup. David is in anguish and is expressing it openly. His cry should remind us that we have to be honest with God. When we are talking to God through prayer, we cannot put on an act for Him. Being open and honest with God is not only relieving, but refreshing. He already knows our emotions, He just wants us to let go.

If you are going through a difficult time, don’t dress up your feelings when you go to God in prayer. Let Him know that you are broken. Let Him know that you don’t know what to do. Let Him know that you’re confused and need strength. God hears you.

Verse 9 says, “You know what I long for, Lord; you hear my every sigh” (NLT). Does God know what you long for? When you pray today, remember to be real and be honest with Him. He wants to hear from you.
