Change Your “Amen” to “I’m in!”

When Ezra reads God’s command to the people, they immediately take action and go out to build a temporary shelter. Although the request may seem odd, the Israelites had great joy after they followed the Lord’s instructions (Nehemiah 8:17).

Like the Jews in Nehemiah, we experience the most joy when we exhibit the most obedience.

We’ve all heard a sermon or read the Bible and thought, "Yeah, I need to do that." Then, we leave the church or close the Bible, and forget all about it. Information by itself won’t change us. But consistent application of what we’re learning will transform us. An easy way to remember this principle is: Information + Application = Transformation.

Life change happens when we don’t just listen to Jesus, we also do what He says. When Jesus shows us a next step — whether it comes through a church service, Bible reading or conversation with a godly friend — don’t delay. Take action right away.

In Philippians 4:9, the apostle Paul writes to early Christians and says, "Whatever you have learned or seen or heard from me, or seen in me — put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you." Not only does God want to grow our faith, He also wants to fill us with an eternal peace only He can provide.

But that process only starts when we stop saying, "Amen," and start saying, "I'm in!"
