Our family has lovingly named our GPS device, Gypsy. Sometimes we don’t follow her directions well, causing her to “recalculate” our route.  And other times, she sends us on routes that look nothing like ones we would have taken. But without fail, every time we input an address, Gypsy gives us turn-by-turn directions to our destination.

Too often, we approach the Lord like He’s a GPS. We want specific, detailed directions for the unanswered questions in our lives. But this is not the heart of faith. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith is stepping out and doing what God asks of us, whether or not we have all the answers.

A GPS lets you select the route with the fastest time, but when we follow the Lord, He’s in control of journey. When we set our hearts on doing God’s will, we agree to take his route in its entirety, even if it takes longer than we prefer.

As you reflect on your day, have the courage to commit to God’s route and take comfort in knowing that we don’t make the journey alone. God gave us the Holy Spirit as an internal compass to help us find our way. He may be leading you in a new direction, with a new purpose, with courage you never knew you had.
