Session 6

What does your life say about who Jesus is?

From Ephesians: A 10-Day Devotional

Ever noticed how one customer service experience can make or break a business’s reputation? Stories about a bloody Band-Aid can make you avoid chili for the rest of your life, while good reviews on Yelp can be the deciding factor in where you go for dinner. One person’s experience can affect the perception of an entire group.

The same can be said for Christians. Often, the people around us are looking at our actions to see what Christians look like, and you may be the only picture they see. The way we act as Christians can either point someone to Jesus or turn them away from Him.

A patient response, a quiet act of service, or an undeserved kindness can show others the character of Jesus. Just as a biting remark, an unethical business deal, or a tidbit of gossip can make others want nothing to do with that person’s religion.

We are called to be humble, gentle, patient, loving, and peaceful (Ephesians 4:2-3). Jesus modeled these traits in His love and mercy toward us, and we are called to follow His example.

Our actions give others an impression of our God. Are our actions painting a picture of Jesus that compels people to learn more?

Reflect:

  • What are three words you would use to describe Jesus’ character?
  • On a scale of 1 to 10, how well do your actions reflect who Jesus is?
  • What’s one thing you can do differently this week to be a better reflection of who Jesus is?
