Proverbs 31 Woman

From Eve & Adam: 30-Day Bible Study

Okay. We’re among friends here. You know you despise her in your heart. You read about her with a squint and a glare. We all do. We read Proverbs 31 with sass and a neck roll. We feel tiny in comparison to her with-it-ness. She cooks and sews, buys and sells, serves and builds people up. She’s shrewd and wise with money; she works hard and supports her husband. She’s a planner. She’s prepared.  She’s a teacher, AND she can be in ten places at once with perfect lipstick and a completely organized purse and no crumbs under her car seats.

She’s Proverbs 31 Woman.

AHHHHHH!

I’m not a great cook, and I certainly don’t sew. I hate fixing lunch boxes, and I think dusting and folding clothes are the greatest acts of futility known to womankind. So this superhero Bible lady has always intimidated me – until I took a closer look recently.

The passage doesn’t really extol her as flawless; it paints – with broad strokes – the picture of how well she managed all that God entrusted to her. She still may have lost it every now and again. She may have burned dinner on occasion, and I believe she probably had a bad hair day once in a while.

We can do that, girls. We can be good managers of His gifts. We can be intentional and responsible with the family, the career, the home, the time, the money He has given to us…Because we aren’t called to perfection; we are called to great stewardship.

1. Can God trust you with more in your life based on how you are currently stewarding what He’s given you?

2. Do you measure your “success” by comparing yourself to other women, when God means for you to measure your success through relationship with Him?
