Fighting For Us

The chains that ensnare us can take on a variety of forms. While most think of matters such as addiction or guilt from past decisions, sin isn’t the only thing that can burden our hearts and cause our relationship with the Lord to suffer. Chains can take the shape of overwhelming stress and worry, financial troubles, failing health, or problems between us and our family or friends. Whatever form they take, however, they never fail to make us feel trapped and weighed down, and we often find ourselves so focused on breaking the chains on our own that we forget who God is and what He has promised to do for us.

Instead of attempting to fight against our chains by ourselves and suffering from paralyzing fear, stress, or anger, we must learn to turn to Him. By surrendering our burdens to God, we allow Him to go to battle for us. Psalm 103:3-5 says God, “forgives all [our] sins and heals all [our] diseases...redeems [our] life from the pit and crowns [us] with love and compassion,” and “satisfies [our] desires with good things.” The Lord does not intend for us to attempt to fight against our chains without Him. Jesus fought our battle on the cross when he took our punishment and made sin as far from us at the east is from the west. We can trust that He will continue to fight for us in our time of need.
