Focus on Jesus

Have you ever wondered about your purpose in life? Everything that John said or did was in order for Jesus to take the forefront and for him to take the background. John the Baptist’s sole reason for existence was to tell people about Jesus. God has given us this same calling. Our purpose in life is also to point people to Jesus.

The ability to point people towards Jesus only comes when we are willing to get over ourselves. John realized that joy comes not in a self-centered existence but in a life consumed with purpose and focused on Jesus. Our own glory is too small of a thing to live for. Living a life focused on anything except Jesus will lead to dead ends, frustrated feelings, and broken emotions. Why not find a life of purpose doing the very thing you were created to do? The great news is that becoming less and pointing others to Jesus leads to our joy and His glory!

Every effort we make can be focused on Jesus becoming greater and us becoming less. Just like John, our joy is only complete when our purpose is completely in line with Jesus. Everything we say and do should exclaim, “It’s not about me, but it’s all about Jesus!”

Reflect:

  • How do you usually speak about Jesus? How can you talk about Him in a way that reveals His true nature?
  • How can you point people to Jesus through your actions today?
  • Who is the one person in your life that you want to meet Jesus? Pray for that person now. Do whatever it takes to invite them to church.
