"The Height," a new song from NewSpring Worship, was inspired by Psalm 19 and Psalm 130

There are many people in the world we can look at and stand in awe of what they have achieved.  But Jesus is the only person who holds all things together and deserves the entirety of our heart’s devotion and praise (Colossians 1:17).

When children start to walk, they go through a phase where they don't want anyone holding them. They're always trying to do things on their own, which leads to frustration, tears and cry outs.

We are like children who just started walking. We move and kick until we're on our own, trying to go through life doing things in our own strength. But when we realize we're not good enough to do this life without God, we will wait and allow Him to guide us through life (Psalm 130).

In the noisiness of this world, God makes known His love and care for us through creation (Psalm 19:1-4). The beauty of a sunset, the height of a mountain or the glimpse of a shooting star all were created by God's words. In that same way, we’re reminded every day God spoke life into us, showing His affection for us through creation (Psalm 19:7, Psalm 19:12-13). We had no say or part in it, but out of God's goodness He reminds us that we are His sons and daughters.

Reflect

  • Giving God complete control of your life is trusting the only person who holds all things together. What area in your life does God not have control of? What step can you take to give it to Him?
  • How do you see creation giving God glory every day? Take time today to thank God for giving you a new life.
