God’s Provision

When it comes to planning events in a girl’s life, bringing a child into the world is second only to planning a wedding. There are registries, showers, nursery renovations and announcements. Every moment has been thought through and dreamed about for months. Epidural or natural birth? Hospital or doula? Who gets to be in the room? Who’s calling the family to deliver the news?

I doubt giving birth in a stable was part of Mary’s birth plans, yet there she was. With no room at the inn and a baby on the way, it might seem like Mary and Joseph were victims of a series of unfortunate events. Until you realize they were about to experience the beauty of God’s timing and provision. Mary was giving birth to Jesus according to God’s plan not hers.

Mary and Joseph didn’t register for gifts or send out birth announcements. But God sent them wise men from the East mounted on camels loaded down with provisions. If we are doing what God has planned, He will always bring our provision to us. We don’t have to try to chase it down; it will seek us out. We don’t have to try to make things happen; God will bring them to us. We can expect God’s provision if we faithfully stay where He has placed us and do the work He has given us to do.

As we celebrate Jesus’s birth, ask God to help you give birth to the plans He has for you. We may be full of dreams for our lives, but we don’t want to achieve our dreams out of season. If God has placed the dream in you, then He will bring it to birth in the right season.  Like the wise men, be willing to wait on God’s direction and instruction on how to proceed.
