Good Vegetables

As adults we can forgive our parents for feeding us vegetables. My family didn’t have a dog I could offer my leafy greens to, so I remember many evenings where I sat at the dinner table staring at a plate full of green beans or broccoli. In hindsight, I understand my parents’ motivation for putting me through what I believed was misery. My parents desired my good over my comfort or pleasure. Sure there were days when they surprised me with cookies after school and made chocolate layer cakes for my birthday, but they loved me enough to know I needed more than cake or cookies.

When seasons of life feel like an endless plate of vegetables, it’s difficult to remember that our Heavenly Father loves us and wants good for us, even if we are displeased or uncomfortable. God promises that whether we or not we see His gifts as good or bad, He always has our ultimate wellbeing in mind. Today, thank God for loving you enough to give you what you need most.
