How To Get More From Your Group

She didn’t want to share her story. Over the past few meetings of her NewSpring Group, other Christians opened up about how God had been working in their lives, but she still wasn’t comfortable.

God’s instruction in James 5:16 is meant for freedom as we share our struggles with other Christians. God is so good that He does not want us to carry our burdens alone; He commands us to encourage one another to defeat sin (Hebrews 10:24-25). As the woman thought about that, she realized she had no reason not to trust her Group. Each of them spoke up about mistakes they had made, and the Group had supported them.

She decided to do it. She shared how God had worked through a painful time in her life, and how she was still a work in progress – emotionally, physically and spiritually. The result? The connection with her Group deepened, and she slowly began to experience healing, as James 5:16 promises. Others in the Group were able to open up more and encourage her because she had been honest about her mistakes.

Committing to a Group isn't easy, but it is essential (Hebrews 10:25). This woman knew joining a Group was her next step, and God blessed it. By sharing what God had done with her Group, she experienced more growth and freedom than she expected.
